GYDAC has successfully applied for a grant from England Athletics to deliver a youth-to-young-adults recruitment scheme called "Game Changers". We are now charged with signing up twenty to thirty 14 - 25 year old young people to submit to England Athletics.

How do I register my interest?

The club has been actively canvassing prospective schools, academies and colleges in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney districts. As the 14 - 18 year olds eligible to join in add up to many thousands, those really interested in athletics must race to one of the athletic clubs training nights as soon as possible to get further details and registration forms. This will include parental permission forms that must be signed and dated and returned with the application.

Where is the Wellesley Stadium?

The stadium address is Wellesley Road, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR30 1EY. It is between the coach park and the rear of the large hotels on North Drive, off of Sundown Road. The stadium is also home to Great Yarmouth Town FC.

What are the club training nights?

Tuesday and Thursdays from 6:45pm until 8:15pm.

Who do I have to meet and register with?

Steve Austin, the volunteer recruitment co-ordinator, will be staffing a table at the front of the grandstand with all of the information that you require. The forms must be completed and handed in no later than Thursday 28th June 2018.

What training courses are on offer?

The club is seeking recruits that are fond of athletics first and foremost. They must be willing to attend training nights regularly. The courses necessary to gain coaching and/or officiating qualifications are held in the autumn/winter, usually at weekends at various venues around the county. All costs incurred to attend these courses will be met from the England Athletics grant.

Other courses in soft skills such as IT, media and communications, print and publishing, photography and cinematography, first aid, catering and hospitality will be subject to the support of teachers and lecturers, the nature of the tasks involved and other factors.

How long are the training courses?

That depends on the individual nature of the courses. The Game Changers programme is expected to last at least 18 months, to the end of 2019. Some course will start andend well within the timeframe. The trained and qualified recruits will then be expected to use the skills and experience gained with the club to make us all fitter, faster and stronger!

When will I know if my application has been approved?

As written earlier, the number of applications could be substantial. There will have to be a selection policy that enables us to choose the optimum number and range of prospective recruits. These will be invited for interview and we will then notify all applicants by a date to be announced in due course.
