About Us

Learn a little about our club and how you can get involved

Formed in 1973, Great Yarmouth and District Athletic Club offers a warm and friendly welcome to athletes of all abilities interested in joining our club.

It is important to note, younger athletes MUST be at least 8 years old AND in school year 4 at school to come and train with us. We do not have an upper age limit so it's never too late to start!

Our team of qualified coaches are available to teach a range of athletics disciplines that include sprinting, jumping, throwing and running and will encourage you to reach your full athletic potential.

Throughout the year we meet every Thursday evening from 6:45pm at the Wellesley Recreation Ground in Great Yarmouth, the location of which is available on the map below.

Training begins at 7:00pm and depending on the sessions planned by our coaches generally finish between 8:15 and 8:30pm.

In addition to Thursday evenings at the track we also train on Monday or Tuesday evenings throughout the year. Full details of our training schedule and session fees are available on our training schedule and fees page.

You are more than welcome to come and visit us during a training evening to see what we have to offer. Ask for Alan Jones, our head of coaching, who will be able to assist you further. In Alan’s absence, any member of our team will do all we can to help.

Your first training session with us is FREE! Thereafter, we ask for £4.00 per session from non members. You are allowed a further three sessions with us until we ask that you make the decision whether or not you would like to join our club. In doing so, not only do you benefit from a reduction of over 60% on your training fees; reduced to £1.50 per session, but you can also represent the club in important East Anglian League meetings held throughout the Spring and Summer each year and other athletics fixtures and road races. Further details about becoming a member of our club are available on our membership page.

Don't forget though, we are not just focused on Track and Field athletics. We also have a dedicated and expanding road running section. Each year they organise and host both the Humpty Dumpty10K and Freethorpe Ten road races. These popular races are growing every year and the lastest online entry or recent results are available on our home page.

Members of the section also compete individually and as part of our team in many other fixtures throughout the region hosted by other local clubs.
